AI clip selection.
Captions and review markers.
A working prototype.

A video-clipping prototype used transcripts to suggest clips, prepare captions and test comments at the corresponding video timestamps. It ran on Noah’s own account; handover to the client account remained pending.

Tools & working context

Project scope and implementation.

  • Make
  • Google Sheets
  • OpenAI · historical GPT-3/4
  • Frame.io
  • JSON parsing
  • Timestamp / frame mapping

01 / Business context

The problem
to solve.

Finding usable moments in a video involves several related tasks: select a passage, identify its boundaries, give it a title, prepare a caption and put those decisions somewhere an editor can review them.

The prototype used the transcript to suggest clip boundaries, titles and captions for an editor to review. It did not demonstrate finished video editing, export or publication.

Inside the workflow

A closer look
at the handoffs.

Start with the main path and its branches. Select a step for context, or switch to the technical map for implementation detail.

  • Video and transcript sheet
A Sheets row supplies the video, transcript and adjustable test settings.
  • Previous clip end
The later prototype uses the last generated end time to choose the next section.
  • Select transcript section
Split the source into the next section rather than passing one long transcript.
  • Generate candidate JSON
Produce clip boundaries, title and captions from the selected section.
  • Parse each clip candidate
Iterate the structured model output into individual candidate records.
  • Write candidate metadata
Record the generated clip data in Google Sheets.
  • Frame.io review markers
Convert seconds to frame positions for start and end comments.
  • Advance the processing position
Use the returned end time as input to the next processing cycle.
  • Inspect clip boundaries
Review timestamp precision and duration drift on the own-account prototype.
Read the workflow notes
  1. 01 / Read

    Take in the source context

A Google Sheets row supplied video and transcript information. Recorded configuration instructions explained the input fields and adjustable test parameters.

  2. 02 / Structure

    Parse the clip candidates

The model produced JSON with clip start/end points, titles and captions. Make parsed each item and wrote structured output back to Sheets. A later update described iterative transcript chunks, advancing from the previous clip end.

  3. 03 / Place

    Translate time into review markers

Seconds were converted to frame positions for Frame.io comments. The tests included isolated comments at ten and twenty seconds, followed by clip-boundary and caption examples.

Testing used Noah’s own accounts because the client connection did not return the required team information. Successful component tests do not establish a completed client rollout.

03 / Implementation detail

The edge cases
were part of
the engineering.

In one test, later clip suggestions fell below the requested thirty-to-sixty-second length. Prompt adjustments and the precision of the source timestamps still needed attention.

Source-transcript granularity limited how precisely a boundary could be selected. Chunking was the approach described for progressing through longer source material; hour-long processing was discussed as a possibility rather than a verified result.

The caption-generation component is supported by the recordings. An editable approval interface, final channel selection and future social scheduling were requested elsewhere, but are not demonstrated as completed features here.

04 / Outcome & scope

Result
and scope.

Noah built the prototype and tests of generated clip details, captions and review markers. That work goes beyond a written brief, while remaining a prototype.

This was a prototype for generating clip details, captions and review markers. Client-account transfer, editing/export and production publishing were outside its completed scope.
